Message from the Mayor
 I would like to welcome you to the home pages of the City of Taunton. Our community is rich in history and blessed with a vitality and energy that make our community one of the fastest growing cities in Southeastern Massachusetts. We are located a short distance from Boston, Providence, America's hometown of Plymouth and Cape Cod. In Taunton, you will find a rich assortment of people from a variety of cultural backgrounds whose energy and strong work ethic have enabled our industries to
become pioneers of the industrial age to the leaders of the technology frontier.
Taunton is one of the first communities where a woman was instrumental in it's founding and the heroic patriots of Taunton raised the Liberty & Union flag on Taunton Green on October 21, 1774 presenting the first patriotic flag to fly in the American colonies.
Our community has earned the reputation as the Christmas City as visitors converge on Taunton from all corners of New England to witness the annual lighting of historic Taunton Green. We are proud of the rich traditions offered by our community's oldest industry Reed & Barton whose skilled craftsman earned for this business the standard of excellence in the manufacture of silver.
Our community is the center of industrial opportunity where our Myles Standish Industrial Park located off Route 495 is one of the fastest growing industrial areas in New England. Our Liberty & Union Industrial Park located near the intersection of Routes 24 and 140 offer unique opportunities for a wide range of businesses.
