MPA Inventory Expansion
Speakers: Lauren Wenzel, Acting Director, National Marine Protected Areas Center, Mimi D’Iorio, GIS/Database Manager, MPA Center, Hugo Selbie, MPA Inventory Analyst, MPA Center, and Carlos Mireles, CA Sea Grant Fellow
Topic: Over the past year, the MPA Center has been refining a protocol to expand the MPA Inventory database to provide detailed information on natural and cultural resources and management of individual MPAs, as well as data necessary to help federal agencies "avoid harm" to National System MPAs (as called for in Executive Order 13158). This information will greatly expand the utility of the MPA Inventory as a clearinghouse for MPA information and a source for compelling stories and data about the role of MPAs in conserving our marine resources.
