Housing Inspectors General Initiative

The Inspectors General who oversee federal agencies that play a significant role in supporting housing across the United States recently formed an ongoing joint initiative. In addition to FHFA-OIG, this initiative includes the Offices of Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD-OIG), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA-OIG) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA-OIG). The Federal Housing Inspectors General work proactively in order to combat fraud, waste, and abuse in our nation’s housing programs.

In November 2011, the Federal Housing Inspectors General issued the Compendium of Federal Single Family Mortgage Programs and Related Activities. This Compendium is intended to serve as a useful guide to federal housing programs and activities for policymakers and the public. It contains content collected by the four Offices of Inspector General regarding programs administered by their respective agencies, but it has not been prepared in accordance with Government Auditing Standards. The Compendium also provides useful background information regarding the activities of each of the Federal Housing Inspectors General.
