2010 Census

Apportionment Countdown — Incorporate the 2010 Congressional Apportionment Countdown Clock into your website to help share the importance of census participation. The first data released from the 2010 Census are the official national and state population count, which are used to apportion seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. As mandated by the Constitution, this data must be delivered to the President of the United States on or before Dec. 31. Demographic

Who in the United States Sends and Receives Remittances? An Initial Analysis of the Monetary Transfers Data from the August 2008 Current Population Survey Migration Supplement — Monetary transfers, commonly called “remittances,” refer to personal transfers of money to and from relatives or friends who are living abroad. This report presents initial results on the occurrence, frequency and amount of transfers sent and received. This supplement is noteworthy because it was the first time questions on monetary transfers were included in a federally sponsored, nationally representative survey. (Scheduled for release Nov. 8.)

America's Families and Living Arrangements: 2010 — This series of tables provides an annual look at the socioeconomic characteristics of families and households at the national level, including median household size, median age of first marriage and how many children lived with a grandparent. (Scheduled for release in Nov. 10.)

School Enrollment in the United States: 2009 — Statistics describing a wide variety of demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the country's students at all levels of school, from nursery to graduate. The tables provide information by age, sex, race, Hispanic origin, family income, type of college, employment status and vocational course enrollment — all for the nation as a whole. The data come from the Current Population Survey; therefore, historical tables are provided with annual statistics back in some cases as far as 1956. (Scheduled for release in November.)

USA Counties — This latest update features more than 6,800 data items at the national, state, and county level from a variety of sources. New and revised data items include age; sex; race and Hispanic origin estimates; banking; building permits; civilian labor force; housing unit estimates; population estimates; Social Security and Supplemental Security Income for 2009; county business patterns; crime; nonemployer statistics; physicians; small area income and poverty estimates for 2008; crime, education and vital statistics (births and deaths) for 2007; and water use for 2005. (Scheduled for release in mid-November.)

Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE): 2009 — These tables provide estimates of income and poverty for states and counties, as well as estimates of poverty and population for school districts. The only source of single-year income and poverty data for most counties and school districts, SAIPE provides annual updates for the administration of federal programs and the allocation of federal funds to local jurisdictions. (Scheduled for release in early December.)

Economic Indicators — The Census Bureau releases statistics that provide monthly, quarterly and yearly updates on key measures of the nation's economic condition. Upcoming releases in November include monthly wholesale trade: sales and inventories, U.S. international trade in goods, advance monthly sales for retail and food services. Facts for Features

2010 Holiday Season — To commemorate this time of year, the Census Bureau is releasing a collection of facts and figures related to Christmas (Dec. 25), Hanukkah (Dec. 1) and New Year's Day (Jan. 1). (Scheduled for release in November.)

2009 ACS Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) Files — Nov. 2 — These files are an extract of the full data set, released in a manner that avoids disclosure of information about households or individuals. Demographic

Fertility of American Women: 2008 — Nov. 4 — Utilizes data from two sources: the June 2008 Supplement to the Current Population Survey (CPS) and the 2008 American Community Survey (ACS). The CPS data, national-level only, provide a historical perspective showing the lifetime fertility experience of women, while the ACS data, provided at the state level, focus on the current fertility experiences of women with a birth in the last year. The data are shown by various demographic characteristics, such as race, Hispanic origin, educational attainment and nativity. New topics examined in this year's report include births to cohabitating women, lifetime fertility patterns for women with higher education, and unemployment levels for new moms. Internet address:

Video and Tutorial Help Data Users Prepare for Launch of Census Bureau's New American FactFinder — Oct. 28 — In January 2011, the U.S. Census Bureau plans to launch a revamped version of its data delivery tool, American FactFinder. The new American FactFinder offers a new look, new tools and easier access to Census Bureau information. In order to prepare users for this change, the Census Bureau has prepared an online video, the American FactFinder Virtual Tour, and a tutorial to demonstrate the enhanced features and functions of the new and improved FactFinder. Census Bureau Opens Research Laboratory in Minneapolis — Oct. 27 — The U.S. Census Bureau, in partnership with the University of Minnesota, opened a new research data center (RDC) laboratory on the university's campus. RDCs are secure Census Bureau facilities where researchers from academia, federal agencies and other institutions with approved projects receive restricted access to unpublished Census Bureau demographic and economic microdata files.
