Research at NIDA
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is a part of the National
Institutes of Health (NIH) – the Nation's medical research
agency. NIDA research helps to:
- Compare how the brain works when people use – and don't use – drugs such as nicotine, cocaine, ecstasy and marijuana
- Find out what causes people to use drugs
- Treat heroin and other drug addiction
- See how using drugs for a long time affects the brain
- Find the best ways to help teens and adults stop smoking cigarettes
Your role in NIDA research is an important part of NIDA's mission – to lead the Nation in bringing the power of science to bear on drug abuse and addiction. |
