Chairman Rogers Applauds the Closing of the DOJ Investigation of CIA Interrogators

WASHINGTON, D.C.  --  Chairman Rogers today released the following statement regarding Attorney General Holder’s announcement today that the Department of Justice has closed the two remaining criminal investigations stemming from the review by Assistant US Attorney (AUSA) John Durham involving detainee interrogations post 9/11.

On May 13, 2011, Chairman Rogers sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder calling for an end to the “unjustified criminal investigations of CIA personnel for authorized conduct in the line of duty, including interrogations that took place following the attacks of September 11.”  In that letter, Chairman Rogers went on to say, “These intelligence professionals deserve our gratitude and respect for their selfless service, not potential criminal liability and legal fees.” 

On June 30, 2011, Attorney General Holder announced the Department of Justice had dropped the criminal investigation into all but two matters, which it left open for further investigation.  Today’s announcement from DOJ brings to an end the two remaining investigations.
