We are an intergovernmental organisation supported by 34 States. We provide operational medium- and extended-range forecasts and a state-of-the-art super-computing facility for scientific research. We pursue scientific and technical collaboration with satellite agencies and with the European Commission.

Articles include "Early indication of extreme winds utilising the Extreme Forecast Index”, “Towards an operational GMES Atmosphere Monitoring Service”, Blending information from infrared radiances with ultraviolet data in the operational ozone analysis” and “BUFR data and Metview”.
 
Arctic sea-ice and poor summer weather

ECMWF Seminar on Seasonal Prediction
seminar-web-news-600.png 07 September 2012 Seasonal forecasts are increasingly used in a range of applications to improve weather-associated risk management such as preventing losses due to severe flood and drought conditions and preparation for health-related emergencies. Scientists from the whole globe attended this year's ECMWF annual seminar on seasonal prediction held from 3 to 7 September 2012.
 
Forecasts for the Paralympics
Olympics-2012-120.png 25 July 2012 Building on the success of forecasting for the London 2012 Olympic games, the Met Office focus is now directed to providing the same outstanding support to the Paralympic games due to start on 29 August and running until 9 September.
