Two Stockton Men Indicted for Firearms and Drug Violations
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – On Thursday, a federal grand jury returned an indictment against Manolo Reyes, 30, and Mario Abel Raya, 31, both of Stockton, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Special-Agent-in-Charge Stephen C. Herkins announced.
Reyes and Raya were charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and distribution of methamphetamine. In addition, Manolo Reyes was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, dealing firearms without a license, possession of an unregistered short-barrel rifle, and possession of an unregistered machine gun.
According to court documents, the alleged crimes took place in a business parking lot in Stockton. Among the firearms allegedly possessed and sold by Reyes are a Sten Model, Mark II machine gun and a Bushmaster Carbon 15 short-barrel rifle.
This case is the product of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Paul Hemesath and Special Assistant United States Attorney David Petersen are prosecuting the case.
If convicted, Reyes and Raya face a maximum statutory penalty of life in prison. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.
The charges against the defendants are only allegations and they are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
