Putting Americans Back to Work
On Wednesday, I was proud to join other Democratic Members of the House in calling for the immediate passage of the American Jobs Act. Our nation’s families, workers, entrepreneurs, teachers, police officers, firefighters and veterans must not and cannot wait any longer. The American Jobs Act will create jobs, strengthen small businesses, rebuild America, and grow our economy now.
The American Jobs Act fits squarely with House Democrats’ back-to-basics, ABCs plan to create jobs: Make It In America, Build America, and Community Recovery Corps. We are committed to strengthening our manufacturing, technological, and industrial base, putting people to work rebuilding our roads, bridges and railways, and speeding up rebuilding assistance to local communities affected by recent natural disasters.
After more than 250 days in the majority, House Republicans have yet to produce a clear jobs agenda. They now have the opportunity to change course, to pass the American Jobs Act, and to put the American people back to work. Congress must act now to create jobs, strengthen our middle class, and expand our economy.

Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of AIDS Memorial Grove
Recently, I joined family and friends to participate in the monthly weeding, planting, and cleaning of San Francisco’s AIDS Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park. In 1996, I was proud to introduce a bill to make the Grove a national memorial to the thousands of Americans who have died so tragically of AIDS. As we mark the 20th anniversary of the Grove on Wednesday, we remember those lost and recommit ourselves in the fight to end HIV and AIDS.
Passport Day
On Saturday, passport agencies nationwide will host special events to celebrate Passport Day in the USA. The San Francisco Passport Agency will open from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm to provide passport information to U.S. citizens and to accept passport applications. No appointment is necessary. Consult the U.S. State Department for more information.
