ATF Offers $5,000 Reward for Information on Wichita Mosque Arson
WICHITA, Kan. – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Kansas City Field Division, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Wichita Fire Department announced today ATF is offering a reward of $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the Oct. 31, 2011 fire at the Islamic Association of Mid-Kansas, located 3406 W. Taft in Wichita, Kan.
The fire was reported at 12:45 a.m. on Oct. 31 and caused approximately $150,000 in damage to the mosque. However, no injuries were reported. A thoroughscene investigation was conducted by ATF and the Wichita Fire Department. The cause of the fire has been officially determined as incendiary. The determination that the fire was intentionally set was reached following technical analysis of evidence at ATF’s Fire Research Laboratory in Md.
ATF dispatched a Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) and additional special agents to the scene. CFIs are highly trained special agents, who provide technical support, analysis and assistance to its state and local partners in the areas of fire origin and cause determination and arson investigation.
The ongoing criminal investigation is being conducted by ATF, FBI and Wichita Fire Department.
