1/24/2012 - LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Two of the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency's premiere performers earned Air Force recognition Jan. 19 for their contributions to warfighting integration and information dominance.

Jeffrey Lierly of the Integrated Air Defense System Analysis Squadron at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, earned the 2011 General John P. Jumper Awards for Excellence in Warfighting Integration's Outstanding Civilian of the Year. Capt. Nathan McKinnon from the 27th Intelligence Squadron, Langley AFB, Va., earned the 2011 Air Force Information Dominance Outstanding Cyberspace Company Grade Officer of the Year.

Lierly and McKinnon were among 525 nominees vying in 45 categories spanning the integration and dominance awards.

"The superb quality of the nominations we received confirms our Airmen continue to excel in conducting warfighting missions around the world," said Lt. Gen. William T. Lord, Air Force chief of warfighting integration and chief information officer. "The culmination of their efforts to contribute to and support vital Air Force missions and operations led to their selection as the very best of an outstanding group of officers, enlisted and civilians."

Lierly's litany of accomplishments included resolving 15 years of data (200 million records) within three days into actionable intelligence; giving the U.S. president and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff decision superiority by assessing Operation Iraqi Freedom lessons learned and Libyan order of battle; and led the intelligence community to an order of battle consensus for a noncombat evacuation operation evacuating more than 80 citizens with zero lives lost.

"(Lierly) the epitome of warfighting integration," wrote Lt. Col. Deborah MacKay, IADS Analysis Squadron commander. "(He is) the perfect mix of intel expertise with operations prowess, the warfighting integration standard."

MacKinnon's achievements involved him directing integration and project engineering management of a $5 billion weapon system network, and he led a $50 million-a-year information technology multi-intelligence system installation and upgrade, which armed seven combined commands with daily ISR capabilities. He also optimized the Distributed Common Ground System network to meet a 110 percent surge. The latter paved the way for his unit winning the 480th ISR Wing's Swindell Award as the top cyber squadron in the wing.

"Nate is a superstar among communication leaders behind the scenes who enable DCGS to satisfy warfighter needs," said Lt. Col. Michael Pfingsten, 27th IS commander. "Nate possesses the optimal mix of leadership and technical prowess to get the job done right."

All the award winners will be honored at a ceremony scheduled for Spring 2012.
