Lamborn Asks for Last American World War I Veteran to Lie in State

This week, Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05), along with a bipartisan group of lawmakers from the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, sent a letter to Speaker John Boehner asking him to consider allowing Frank Woodruff Buckles to lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda. Buckles, America’s last surviving veteran of World War I, passed away earlier this week.

“All Americans owe Frank Woodruff Buckles and  the 4.7 million Americans who served alongside him, our heartfelt gratitude for the freedoms and liberties we enjoy as a result of their sacrifice. Mr. Buckles’s service to his country began in  Fort Logan, Colorado, which was then an Army recruiting depot where he volunteered to serve in World War I at the age of 16.  He also served during World War II, and was held captive by the Japanese for two and a half years while working for a civilian shipping company in the Philippines during the war.  Please keep the family and friends of this legendary American in your thoughts and prayers.” -- Congressman Doug Lamborn (R CO-05)
