Congressman Tom McClintock Announces Congressional Art Competition Winners

Six outstanding art students garnered top awards in the Congressional Art Competition -- An Artistic Discovery -- a high school arts contest sponsored by Members of Congress.   The competition was open to all high school students within California’s Fourth Congressional District.  The winners are:

 
1st Place Winner:
Alana Mosca
South Tahoe High School
Title of Entry:  “Barefoot Beauty”
 
Alana’s winning piece is a photograph of footprints in the sand with waves slowly crashing on shore.  Alana’s artwork will be sent to Washington D.C. where it will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel -- the major walkway connecting the Cannon House Office Building with the U.S. Capitol. 
 
2nd Place Winner:
Gisela Renteria
South Tahoe High School
Title of Entry: “Folklorica”
 
3rd Place Winner:
Christopher James Garrett
South Tahoe High School
Title of Entry: “Falls”
 
Honorable Mention is awarded to: Petr Colwell, Nick Knowles and Casey Willitts of South Tahoe High School.
 
Judging took place at PlacerArts in Auburn under the direction of Angela Tahti.  The judges for the 2011 Competition were:  Claudia Draper, El Dorado County Arts Council; Elgin Cannon, Lassen County Arts Council; B.J. Jordan, Sierra County Arts Council, and Judy Nielsen, Nevada County Arts Council.
