FOREIGN AFFAIRS

I continue to pursue my agenda to bolster job creation in northern Illinois and strengthen manufacturing in America through my committee assignment on the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee.

I was recently named the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific by the Committee’s Chairman, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida. I also serve on the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia.

“Congressman Manzullo’s strong support for our ally, South Korea, in wake of North Korea’s string of unprovoked aggression is just the latest example of the strong leadership he has provided for our Committee on U.S. policy toward Asia,” Rep. Ros-Lehtinen said. “He also understands the critical role of our relationship with Japan in providing stability and security in this region, as well as the need to hold China accountable for its economic policies and its assistance to the proliferation efforts of North Korea, Iran, and other rogue regimes.  Don is a tremendous asset to our Committee and I am very pleased that he will be chairing the Asia-Pacific subcommittee in the next Congress."

As Chairman of the Asia subcommittee, I will continue my work to level the playing field for U.S. manufacturers competing in the global marketplace. As Chairman of the U.S.-China Interparliamentary Exchange from 1999 to 2006, I continually engaged China’s leaders on the country’s unfair trade practices, including currency manipulation, piracy and illegal business subsidies. In March 2007, I was appointed to the Congressional Executive Commission on China to continue my leadership on U.S.-China relations. My main efforts are to level the playing field for U.S. manufacturers competing with foreign companies.
