Sarbanes Announces Green Ribbon School Program FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 27, 2011Contact Brianne Nadeau 20-2225-4016 Washington, D.C. – The Department of Education launched its Green Ribbon Schools program yesterday, a partnership with the Center for Environmental Quality that will recognize schools that are making strides in environmental education. “The Green Ribbon Schools program is an exciting milestone for environmental education,” said Congressman John Sarbanes. “Education Secretary Arne Duncan has brought a new focus to environmental education, and I look forward to working with him to promote policies that enable more schools to take the classroom outdoors.” Sarbanes is the author of the No Child Left Inside Act and is currently participating in a listening tour focused on environmental education and citizen stewardship of the Chesapeake Bay. Sarbanes was back in his district yesterday as part of an event in Ellicott City with 100 students from Glenwood Middle School. The students were cleaning up the Patapsco watershed area as part of the Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience initiative. ###
