The US House of Representatives has passed by voice vote Congressman Cynthia Lummis' (R-Wyo) amendment to the Equal Access to Justice Act (EAJA), legislation passed in 1980 to reimburse individuals who otherwise could not afford to legally pursue claims against the government. On Thursday Congressman Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo) joined Congressman Rick Berg (R-ND) in introducing an amendment to protect the US nuclear triad from reductions scheduled under the New START Treaty between the United States and Russia. Wyoming is home to one-hundred and fifty intercontinental ballistic missiles, representing a significant portion of the over 800 strategic nuclear weapons that compose the US nuclear triad. Rep. Lummis' amendment blocks the New START Treaty, which forces the US to reduce its arsenal while still allowing Russia to develop and deploy more nuclear weapons than current levels. The amendment passed by a vote of 232 to 183.
