Washington, Apr 18 -

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) released the following statement regarding Tuesday's vote of support in the House of Representatives on the Sportsmen’s Heritage Act of 2012:

“I voted for H.R. 4089, the Sportsmen’s Heritage Act of 2012. Minnesota has a rich history of hunting and fishing, but many sportsmen have faced unnecessary red tape, preventing them from participating in traditional American recreational activities.

“This legislation prevents the Bureau of Land Management from closing public lands to hunting and recreational shooting without providing proper justification. It also implements an ‘open until closed’ policy for hunting and fishing on public land, tightens the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to ban certain types of ammunition and removes red tape from the importation of certain legally-taken hunting trophies.

“As a strong supporter both of the Second Amendment and of one of Minnesota’s biggest pastimes, I was proud to vote in favor of this legislation.”

The Sportsmen’s Heritage Act of 2012 passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 274-146. The legislation enjoys support from many national hunting, shooting and fishing organizations including the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance, Pheasants Forever and the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation.
