Military Academy Applications Due Oct. 15

Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin reminds students, parents and educators in Wisconsin’s 2nd Congressional District that young adults wishing to enter a U.S. Military Academy next summer with the class of 2017 must submit completed applications by 5:00 PM on Monday, October 15th to the Congresswoman’s Madison office, 10 E. Doty St., Suite 405.

“One of my great privileges as a Member of Congress is nominating the area’s best and brightest young men and women to our nation’s military academies,” said Baldwin. “Wisconsin students, traditionally, are very successful at the academies and I’m pleased to do my part to ensure that our state continues to provide the next generation of our nation’s military leaders,” the Congresswoman said.

A Congressional nomination is required for students wishing to enter the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado; the Military Academy at West Point, New York; the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland or the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York.

Successful applicants will have a strong academic record, strong leadership potential, and be able to pass a physical aptitude test. Applicants must also be U.S. citizens, high school graduates, between the ages of 18 and 23, have no dependents, and be of high moral character.

Those interested may obtain Congresswoman Baldwin’s academy nomination application form on her website, www.tammybaldwin.house.gov, under “How I Can Help You,” or by contacting Jon Wachter at 608-251-8727. Qualified students will be interviewed in late November by the Congresswoman’s academy selection committee, comprised of area business, civic, and education leaders.
