WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Steve Southerland, II issued the following statement today in response to an attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya that killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three American staff members:

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Ambassador Stevens and the dedicated embassy personnel who lost their lives in the ambush on the American consulate in Libya.  Their dedicated service to our nation will not be forgotten.  Make no mistake, this evil act was an assault on freedom and everything America stands for.  In response, we must show a steeled resolve that leaves no doubt whatsoever about our unwillingness to accept an unprovoked attack on innocent Americans abroad.”
