What life experiences led you to volunteer with the NERRS?
Twenty-nine years as an Early Childhood Educator; teacher of nursery through third grade and day-care administrator. Throughout my teaching career and my work with children, exploration of the natural world was an integral part of the curriculum.

What is the most unusual or most unexpected thing that has happened to you while volunteering for the NERRS?
When leading a guided tour, I am often surprised at how little the general public knows about the coastal environment. Estuaries, watersheds and salt marshes and their importance to the health of beaches are often new concepts for them.

What is your proudest achievement as a volunteer?
Even though I have retired from my teaching career I enjoy being able to continue my work with children and to share their curiosity and excitement about the world around them. The content of the Exploring Estuaries program and the Guided Tours is thorough and well planned. Experience with leading both increases my own knowledge about and enjoyment of the seashore community.
