The top export categories (2-digit HS) in 2011 were: Mineral Fuel (oil) ($2.0 billion), Special Other (articles donated for relief and low value shipments) ($558 million), Machinery ($498 million), Cereals (corn, and wheat) ($390 million), and Electrical Machinery ($286 million).

U.S. exports of agricultural products to Guatemala totaled $1.0 billion in 2011. Leading categories include: coarse grains ($206 million), wheat ($156 million), soybean meal ($112 million), and poultry meat ($76 million).

Imports

Guatemala was the United States' 54th largest supplier of goods imports in 2011.

U.S. goods imports from Guatemala totaled $4.1 billion in 2011, a 29.7% increase ($950 million) from 2010, and up 59% from 2000. U.S. imports from Guatemala up 32% from 2005 (Pre-FTA).

The five largest import categories in 2011 were: Knit Apparel ($991 million), Edible Fruit and Nuts (bananas and cantaloupes) ($802 million), Spices, Coffee and Tea (coffee) ($593 million), Precious Stones (gold and silver) ($363 million), and Woven Apparel ($333 million).

U.S. imports of agricultural products from Guatemala totaled $1.9 billion in 2011, the 17th largest U.S. agriculture supplier. Leading categories include bananas and plantains ($625 million), coffee (unroasted) ($577 million), other fresh fruit ($165 million), and rubber and allied products ($88 million).

Trade Balance

The U.S. goods trade surplus with Guatemala was $2.1 billion in 2011, a 60.5% increase ($777 million) over 2010.
