2.0 Site Status Summary

This site was added in anticipation of NARM Final Rule. The building has Radium-226 contamination of a floor drain, sewer line, and scattered spots throughout the main building and property due to past radium paint stripping operations of aircraft instruments/gauges. The site has spotty Radium-226 soil contamination.

The site is currently undergoing a joint consent agreement between the Licensee and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment Bureau's of Air and Radiation and Environmental Remediation due to additional soil mercury levels and VOC contamination of the groundwater. 3.0 Major Technical or Regulatory Issues

The licensee has no financial assurance and it is not clear whether or not cleanup can be accomplished with funds available without referring the site to the US Environmental Protection Agency for a mandatory removal action under CERCLIS.
