Each year, the NHLBI Director provides an opening statements for the NIH budget hearings held by the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education. In addition, subject matter experts from the NHLBI occasionally provide testimony at other hearings about heart, lung, and blood diseases and research. Institute experts also participate in congressional briefings. Although testimony is not provided at briefings, the Institute may provide supplemental briefing materials describing Institute activities.
The NHLBI Congressional Budget Justification (CJ) provides the Senate and House Appropriations Committees with information about research activities that the NHLBI would anticipate funding at the President’s Budget Request Levels.
A number of additional resources provide information about congressional committees and legislation relevant to the NHLBI. The NIH Almanac provides information about the NHLBI’s history, including a legislative chronology.
