- Consortium for Advanced Simulation of Light Water Reactors (CASL)
CASL brings together an exceptionally capable team that will apply existing modeling and simulation capabilities and develop advanced capabilities to create a usable environment for predictive simulation of light water reactors. This environment, designated the Virtual Reactor, will incorporate science-based models, state-of-the-art numerical methods, modern computational science and engineering practices, and uncertainty quantification and validation against data from operating pressurized water reactors. It will couple state-of-the-art fuel performance, neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, and structural models with existing tools for systems and safety analysis and will be designed for implementation on both today’s leadership-class computers and the advanced architecture platforms now under development by the U.S. Department of Energy. - Environmental Management Program Office (EMPO)
EMPO is responsible for the planning and execution of the Integrated Facilities Disposition Project at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. We are committed to supporting the safe modernization of the Central Campus area with minimal impacts to Laboratory staff and missions. Early successes of the project include the development and approval by DOE Environmental Management (EM) of the Mission Need Statement (CD-0) in 2007 and the Alternative Selection and Cost Range (CD-1) development and approved in November 2008. Development of the Performance Baseline and Start of Construction Packages (CD 2/3) is in progress. In February of 2009 Congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) which allocated $210M for the Central Campus Cleanup effort. EMPO is currently authorized to perform approximately $40M of this work and has been asked by DOE to develop proposals to perform an additional $45M of work.
