Oil Pollution Impacts on Birds

This page gathers together information organized or created by the USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center relevant to oil toxicity to birds. The information includes an annotated bibliography of over 2100 citations on all aspects of the environmental oil pollution, waterbird colony data(size, location) for the Gulf of Mexico from data held on Patuxent servers, a review of the toxic effects of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and over 80 published papers reporting results of research by Patuxent scientists on the effects of oil on wildlife, primarily birds, over the last 30 years. This information forms a solid basis for predicting the environmental effects and harm to wildlife that may result from exposure to oil.
