As a condition of employment, all new criminal investigators will be required to successfully complete approximately 22 weeks of paid enforcement training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) near Brunswick, Ga.
Positions will be filled at the GL-7 and GL-9 grade levels.

The tables do not include the 25 percent Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP). Employees are eligible for promotion up to the GS-13 without having to apply again.
HSI criminal investigator positions are located throughout the continental United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Hawaii, Guam, and Saipan. However, a large number of criminal investigator positions are in major metropolitan areas and along the U.S. Southwest border.
Prior firearm experience is not required. Every criminal investigator trainee will be provided with extensive training in the carrying and use of firearms.
