Before starting your research, it is helpful to understand how the Nixon Library collections are organized. Use the links below to help you learn more.
How the Materials Are Organized
- The Nixon Library in Yorba Linda holds the Presidential papers, including the recordings of Presidential conversations (the "White House tapes") and audiovisual materials from the Nixon Administration; papers from the pre-Presidential period, including the Vice Presidential era; and from the post-Presidency.
- Materials are organized by media type (tapes, video, film, textual, etc.).
- Since this is an archives, our holdings
are maintained in their original order and are not organized by subject the way libraries organize their holdings of books.
- We advise all researchers to begin their research with published sources
in order to be familiar with their topic.
- Know important dates and names of individuals (such as White House staff members) that would have been involved with the topic.
Researching the Materials

Researchers interested in finding information within the Nixon Library collections
should begin by identifying the media and using the Finding Aids specific to each type.
In order to facilitate research, the staff of the Nixon Library has also prepared lists of collections by subject on select topics.
