New uses for Carbon Fiber: Rogers says ‘team effort’ involves ORNL, others

(Oak Ridger) Carbon fiber is a reinforced polymer product used in several applications, most often in the sporting goods and automotive industries.
“You already see carbon fiber in fly rods and bicycles,” said Tom Rogers, director of industrial partnerships and economic development at ORNL. But it’s “a team effort” — involving many people at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and many other organizations — to bring carbon fiber composites into mainstream use, said Rogers, who recently spoke about carbon fiber, and the Lab’s efforts to bring the product to the marketplace...10/8
