    USS John C. Stennis Visits Kota Kinabalu

    USS John C. Stennis pulled into Kota Kinabalu waters on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, on a scheduled port visit. This visit marks the first time a US aircraft carrier has visited the capital city of Sabah.

    2010 Youth Leadership Program Alumni Practice Their Leadership Skills in Kuala Gula, Perak

    Approximately 200 mangrove seedlings were planted on September 29, in Kuala Gula, Perak, by six 2010 Southeast Asia Youth Leadership Program (SEAYLP) alumni, as part of a U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur sponsored follow-on project.

    Muslim-American filmmaker and music producer Jeremy Abdul Malik Stern visited Malaysia from August 26 to September 14, 2012. Mr. Stern was here as part of a grant from Public Affairs Kuala Lumpur to teach and engage with young budding filmmakers In Malaysia.

    Keris Strike 12 Begins With Ceremony

    Members of the U.S. and Malaysian armed forces gathered for the Keris Strike 12 opening ceremony on Camp Ulu Tiram, near Johor Bahru, Malaysia, Sept. 18. Keris Strike 12 is a regularly scheduled, multinational exercise sponsored by the U.S. Army Pacific (USARPAC) and hosted annually by the Malaysian Armed Forces.

    American Documentary Filmmaker Impresses Local Film Faculty

    Muslim-American filmmaker and photographer Mustafa Davis visited Malaysia from August 26 to September 14, 2012. The program in Malaysia brought him to three states and made possible for him to share the art of documentary filmmaking to several hundred audience members.

    On August 14, 2012, Ambassador Paul Jones hosted an Iftar at his residence. The event was well attended by key Embassy contacts from diverse professional backgrounds as well as members of the diplomatic community from a range of Muslim countries.

    On August 9, U.S. Embassy Press Attaché Harvey Sernovitz and Pahang State Assemblywoman and Deputy Chairperson of the Pahang State Library Board Dato’ Shahaniza Shamsuddin jointly launched the opening of the Peace Corps Malaysia travelling photo exhibit.

    Malaysian Student Granted $20,000.00 AMCHAM-MACEE Scholarship

    In a ceremony at the American-Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) on August 8, Cherish Lo Chen Huay was awarded the 2012 AMCHAM-MACEE Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded annually to a Malaysian student to pursue a 4-year degree at an American university of his/her choice.

    > Everyone should request electronic delivery of his/her ballot and include an email address on his/her application.
    > Almost all adult U.S. citizens overseas can vote in 2012, even if they have never lived in the U.S. or have been away from the U.S. for a long time.
