The event was to promote physical fitness and get all Chicagoland residents to work out on the same day, at the same time and promote a healthy lifestyle. The two hour event was held on Friday, 15 May, 2009 on Daley Plaza. The Chicago Fire and Police Departments were also present, as well as the USMC and many other physical fitness organizations.

Sponsored by We Do Care, and Hosted by U.S. Cellular Corporation, "Connecting Communities in Frontline Conversations: Live from Kabul, Afghanistan," is the second in a series of webcast conversations. The webcast at U.S. Cellular Field, home of the Chicago White Sox, also gave the family members a chance to interact with community leaders and address concerns. On hand to support were: 11th Ward Alderman, James Balcer; CASA John Scully and his wife, Judy; USO of Illinois; Ms. Lisa Moeller, Executive Director, Tawani Foundation and the U.S. Army 'Soldier of the Year,' Sgt. RIA-JMTC celebrates Machinist Apprenticeship Program graduation

All across the country, high school and college students are celebrating the end of a long four year journey with commencement. The same was celebrated at the Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center when 11 people graduated from the Machinist Apprenticeship Program Friday. The Apprentice Program at Rock Island Arsenal can trace its roots to just before World War I. The first class graduated in 1910. Today, the program is partnered with Black Hawk College, a partnership that has helped the program expand and improve.

The Fort Benning Junior Rifle Club took first place in the precision class team competition at the U.S. Army Junior Open Air Rifle Championship Friday and Saturday at Pool International Shooting Complex. The Fort Benning club received a trophy, medals and bragging rights as the best precision team competing against 20 teams from across the nation. Fort Benning's Andrea Vautrin, a 17-year-old junior at Chattahoochee County High School, took second place in the precision class.

Garrison officials don't anticipate fallout from the upcoming change at Access Control Point 1 on Lumpkin Road, but they'll continue monitoring traffic flow and adjust as needed. Starting June 1, the gate will be open from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will remain closed on weekends and holidays.

Three skilled machinists, working in a purpose-built Mobile Parts Hospital, fabricated more than 11,000 critical replacement parts last year. The MPH here is located in the shadow of huge relocatable maintenance structures, known as Sprungs, adjacent to the 1st Battalion, 402nd Army Field Support Brigade headquarters area. The Balad MPH is one of only three serving the Army since 2003.
