Third Symposium on Comparative Effectiveness Research Methods

Methods for Developing and Analyzing Clinically Rich Data for Patient-Centered Outcomes Research

The Effective Health Care Program, through its DEcIDE Research Network, is sponsoring a third invitational symposium on research methods for comparative effectiveness (CER) and patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR). This 2-day symposium and workshop will be held on June 6 and 7, 2011 at the AHRQ Conference Center in Rockville, Maryland. The symposium is a follow-up to the 2006 and 2009 AHRQ conferences on Methods in Comparative Effectiveness and Safety Research; papers presented at past conferences were published in the journal Medical Care. The AHRQ methods symposia and associated journal supplements have become important resources for investigators to use in designing and conducting comparative effectiveness studies.

The 2011 conference will focus on original research and the methodological insight or advances that arise from the conduct of the research. The symposium aims to provide a forum for scholarly deliberation of new and emerging research methods by scientists working in different disciplines and across settings. The symposium will feature presentations by authors whose abstracts were selected through a blinded peer-review process. In addition to the scientific presentations, keynote speeches will be given by John Concato, MD, Yale School of Medicine and Louis Jacques, MD, Director of Coverage & Analysis at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). To expand access to the symposium proceedings, AHRQ will provide a live broadcast of the authors’ slides and audio presentations via the Internet. If you are interested in viewing this broadcast, we invite you to register through the Web site listed below. Although there is no charge for registration, seats are limited and we ask that you register only when you are sure you can attend the full meeting on June 6 and/or June 7. Insofar as possible, we ask that individuals from the same organization gather together at one location for the broadcast to conserve seating. This will allow as many people as possible to view the presentations. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is recommended that you commit early to ensure a reserved seat.
