Comment: AFMC will use new media to announce award winners
I think it's great that the Air Force is using the new media, such as Twitter. Too bad AF policy won't allow AF users to access Twitter or any other social media / Web 2.0 site from their work computers. View story

Re: Heritage Coat production
Like many others, I'm opposed to the introduction of any new service dress uniform at this time. For one thing, I don't like the new design. It is too "retro" for an armed service that's supposed to be the leading edge of the 21st century. We can be proud of our WWII and USAAF heritage, but we don't have to dress like we're still in the 1940s. If the Marine Corps wants to do that, they can, but they maintain a different culture for a different mission. I'm also proud of the USAF's post-Vietnam technological accomplishments in introducing the F-15, F-16 and B-1, but you don't see me dress up like I'm in the Disco 70's!

The only winners with the new uniform are the designers and manufacturers. The taxpayers get slapped with the wardrobe bill for the enlisted force, the officers pay several hundred dollars for their own clothes, and this is all after everyone had to pay for new PT gear and the ABUs. Let's just drop this whole plan and focus on our job in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Re: Heritage Coat production
I have a closet full of outdated uniforms. The old green work uniform, BDUs, flight suits, PT uniforms, multiple iterations of a service dress uniform, blue shirts with rank on the epaulets, rank on the sleeves. Enough! We spend far too much time, effort and funds changing for the sake of change. If we are truly concerned about "heritage," then quit changing so that we can establish a heritage!

Re: Heritage Coat production
Does anyone really trust the uniform system anymore? Our PT clothes have to be revised, (too short, too loud, sizes incorrect), our ABU pants are three shades lighter than our ABU tops, and while enlisted members may get an annual clothing allowance, no one wants to buy two -or more- different variations of the uniform. We've heard all of the reasons and excuses...American manufacturers are the sole source, impossible to size correctly for varying body sizes, etc. Why would we have the same uniform procurement system be allowed to push through another uniform? Does it make sense?

Comment: Airmen in personal effects office take small items to heart
What a job these Airmen have. This story was very interesting and informative. What they do for the families is so important. Keep up the good work. View story

Re: Heritage Coat production
As it was with the current PT uniform, I now read the proposed Heritage Coat is being met with "favorable reviews" and feedback deemed the coat "suitable for military uniform." Who are these people? I have yet to meet one Air Force member who likes the Heritage Coat or the current PT uniform, but apparently 72 percent prefer the Heritage Coat over the current service uniform?

Re: Heritage Coat production
I don't understand how anyone can give the current service coat favorable marks. It's ill-fitting, non-military in appearance, and less than comfortable. By most accounts the new coat is comfortable, sharp, and projects a great image for the Air Force. Being a "nation at war" is a red herring argument and has nothing to do with whether USAF members look good in uniform. I would urge the senior leadership to continue forward with this jacket in light of the positive comments of those that have wear tested the coat, especially after all the work that has gone into researching and producing it.

Re: Heritage Coat production uncertain despite favorable reviews
Now does not seem like the appropriate time to introduce a new service dress uniform. Let's fix the mess we have with PT uniforms and get cold weather ABU gear out to the field before we waste money on a totally unnecessary new uniform.

Re: Heritage Coat production uncertain despite favorable reviews
I totally agree with Sergeant Schneider. Our current service jacket is just fine. No need to waste the taxpayers money on this.

Re: Heritage Coat production uncertain despite favorable reviews
I simply do not understand the need for constant changes to the uniform. How many millions of taxpayer dollars have we wasted over the years. Ever since General McPeak changed the uniform in 1991, every CSAF has decided to change it further. We have a perfectly fine uniform now. Let's leave it as it is, and maybe many years from now we'll have a uniform that people look back on with pride and recognition, just like people do with the Army, Navy and Marine Corps.
