Joint Regional Correctional Facility officially opens

Joint Regional Correctional Facility Sgt. Maj. Anthony Simmons, 705th Military Police Internment and Resettlement Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Dawn Hilton, Army Corrections Command Commander Col. Mark Inch, 15th Military Police Brigade Commander and U.S. Disciplinary Barracks Commandant Col. Eric Belcher, and 15th MP Brigade and USDB Command Sgt. Maj. Jonathan Godwin cut a ribbon to signify to opening of the JRCF Sept. 28 on the Military Correctional Complex at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. The JRCF has a 464-bed capacity, with additional special housing units that are segregated from the rest of the prison population. The new $95 million prison fulfills a decision by the Base Realignment and Closure Commission in 2005 to close three other facilities at Fort Knox, Ky., Fort Sill, Okla., and Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The first group of inmates is expected to arrive from Fort Sill in October.
