Job Posting for Deputy Associate Director – Library Operations – National Library of Medicine

NLM IS SEEKING QUALIFIED APPLICANTS FOR POSITION AS DEPUTY ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR LIBRARY OPERATIONS

 The National Library of Medicine (NLM), the world’s largest library of the health sciences, is recruiting for the Deputy Associate Director for Library Operations. The successful candidate will participate fully in directing and managing all activities of the Division of Library Operations. This includes formulating, establishing, and interpreting policies; developing, analyzing, and evaluating programs; implementing operating plans; assessing resource requirements; and formulating budget requests. The staff of nearly 300 federal and more than 300 contract employees is organized into exemplary public services, technical services, and bibliographic services staffs; a world-renown history of medicine division; and three offices consisting of vocabulary-related activities, health services research, and management of the more than 4000 member National Network of Libraries of Medicine. The Deputy Associate Director for Library Operations also oversees the NLM Library Associate Program and a small staff that perform a wide-variety of administrative functions. Among the many exciting NLM programs for which Library Operations takes the lead are the scanning and preservation of historical items, the creation of a digital repository for monographs and other non-journal formats, the utilization of a AI system for MEDLINE indexing, and the development of products for patients and their families such as mobile MedlinePlus.
