U.S. Army South to hold change of command ceremony, University of Texas-Austin graduate to take command

FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas (September 11, 2012) - United States Army South will hold a change of command ceremony Sept. 14 at 9 a.m. here on MacArthur Parade Field.

Maj. Gen. Simeon G. Trombitas, who has commanded Army South since November 2009, will relinquish command to Maj. Gen. Frederick S. Rudesheim in a traditional Army ceremony.

Rudesheim is taking command of Army South following an assignment as the deputy director for joint and coalition warfighting, joint civil-military operations, the Joint Staff in Suffolk, Va.

Rudesheim is a 1981 Army ROTC graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.

Air Force Gen. Douglas Fraser, commander of U.S. Southern Command will host the ceremony.

U.S. Army South, as the Army Service Component Command for U.S. Southern Command, conducts Theater Security Cooperation in Central and South America and the Caribbean, in order to enhance hemispheric security and stability.
