News and Updates
During 2011, DoD SAPRO had several major policy achievements including:
Update to DoD Directive 6495.01. This is the first component of SAPR Policy and requires working with organizations across the Department. SAPRO facilitated revisions and clarifications to the Directive, which establishes DoD policy and assigns responsibilities for the SAPR Program. In short, the Directive provides victims with critical services and Service members with field guidance. The Directive was published in January 2012.
Directive-Type Memoranda (DTM). The Department issued two DTMs (DTM 11-062 and DTM 11-063) on document retention and expedited transfers for Service member sexual assault victims. Under the new document retention policy, specified documents in Unrestricted cases will be retained for 50 years and in Restricted cases for five years. The expedited transfer policy allows the Service member who has filed an Unrestricted report to request a transfer from their unit or installation and to have a decision on that request within 72 hours. If the request is denied, the Service member may obtain a review of the decision within 72 hours.
