MMWR Continuing Education: General Information
Weekly Publications
MMWR has extended its Continuing Education (CE) to reports published in the Weekly Series. CEs will be available the following Friday am after its release.
The course itself may be accessed on-line via the internet in two ways:
- The MMWR site which links to the TCEO site to obtain CE hours.
- The TCEO site which links to the MMWR site for the actual course.
Goal
The goal of this report is to be CDC’s primary voice for scientific publication of timely, reliable, authoritative, accurate, objective, and useful science-based public health information and recommendations to those in need of the information.
Objectives
The objective of MMWR to (1) describe current (timely, reliable, authoritative accurate, objective, and useful science-based) public health information; (2) provide recommendations based on the information, and (3) describe the impact that the recommendations will make on public health.

Physicians, nurses, health educators, other public health workers
Accreditation Statements
For Continuing Medical Education (CME) physician credit:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designates this enduring material educational activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
For Continuing Nursing Education for Nurses (CNE):
The CDC is accredited as a provider of Continuing Nursing Education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
This activity provides 1 contact hours.
IACET Continuing Education Units (CEU):
The CDC has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 1760 Old Meadow Road, Suite 500, McLean, VA.
The CDC is authorized by IACET to offer 0.1 ANSI/IACET CEU's for this program.
For Continuing Education Contact Hours in Health Education (CECH):
Sponsored by the CDC, a designated provider of continuing education contact hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.
This program is designed for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) to receive up to 1.0 Category I CECH in health education. CDC provider number GA0082.
Continuing Education for Veterinarians (AAVSB/RACE)/AAVSB RACE

This program was reviewed and approved by the AAVSB RACE program for 2 hours of continuing education in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB RACE approval. Please contact the AAVSB RACE program if you have any comments/concerns regarding this program’s validity or relevancy to the veterinary profession.

To obtain CE, learners must register (log-in) and select the relevant activity and type of CE. To see a list of available Weekly Series activites on TCEO, learners should follow the instructions below:
- Go to: http://www.cdc.gov/tceonline
- Click on "Search" from the main menu
- Go to box 2 under "Search Options: 2) Keyword Search", type in "MMWR"
- Click the "View" button under box 2
Learners have 45 days from the date the activity is posted to acquire CE hours.
