Omar Khlifi, a property disposal specialist with DLA Disposition Services, and Philip Ford, a police officer with DLA Installation Support, are the DLA Employees of the Quarter winners for the third quarter of fiscal 2012.

Khlifi exhibited superior service by skillfully identifying gaps in capability and working to develop lasting relationships with customers and promoting DLA Disposition Services’ capabilities to the community of Aviano, Italy. In addition to working with the American Forces Network to create a commercial for DLA Disposition Services, he has improved the financial accountability of the site tremendously.  The reutilization for Aviano in 2011 was more than $1 million, and this year Khlifi is on track to reutilize about $3 million. In addition to this, he has reduced spending considerably in scrap removal payments and has served with distinction as one of the reutilization business integration testers. Khlifi’s stewardship serves as a model for everyone in Europe.

Ford bravely demonstrated outstanding service and courage on June 9. On that day, Ford responded to an emergency call of a suicidal suspect. Upon arrival on the scene, it was determined the suspect was armed with a knife, barricaded in a room, and threatening to kill himself as well as police officers present. Ford engaged the suspect in conversation and convinced him to push the knife under the door. He then risked his own safety to secure the knife, possibly saving the life of the suspect and that of his fellow officers. The suspect came out into the open, and a violent struggle ensued. Along with his fellow officers, Ford was then credited with taking the suspect into custody. He was a vital link in this successful operation that turned a potentially lethal situation into a positive outcome. Through his superb skills, he prevented the suspect from taking his own life. The suspect is now receiving counseling and assistance. Ford’s actions are a direct reflection of his dedication to duty, his unwavering commitment to this department’s vision, and to DLA’s overall mission.
