Electronic Payments
Employers send more than half of the income withheld for child support to states electronically. State child support agencies offer payment by Electronic Funds Transfer/Electronic Data Interchange (EFT/EDI).
Benefits of using EFT/EDI to send payments:
- Eliminated cost – no more printing and mailing paper checks and remittance statements
- Fewer errors than manual data entry processing
- Less time – eliminates check handling and delays from lost or misdirected mail
Electronic payments also speed up disbursement of child support payments to custodial parents.
