In addition to the NCBI News and What's New, topic-specific mailing lists distribute e-mail announcements about changes and updates to a variety of resources. The available e-mail lists are described below and include links to subscription instructions. Announcements about some other resources are available as RSS Feeds.
To receive general announcements about changes and updates to a broad range of NCBI services, the following e-mail list is available:

brief announcements on a broad range of NCBI resources and news items, with pointers to more detailed information (for example, in the topic-specific mailing lists below).

GenBank Bionet Newsgroup. A moderated list that includes announcements of new GenBank releases, recent and upcoming changes, and discussion among subscribers. The newsgroup archives are accessible on the web at http://www.bio.net/bionet/mm/genbankb/.

This E-mail listserv has been retired and messages from the Gene Announce service have been archived.
News about significant changes, such as the addition of genomes, changes in data sources or displays, and new data sources can be obtained from Gene's RSS Feed.

News about GEO (Gene Expression Omnimbus), such as changes in design, tools, or other major enhancements.

A brief description of GEO is provided in the NCBI Resource Guide. A separate "NCBI-GEO-DEV" mailing list is also available. It contains more frequent messages and additional technical information. That list receives anything sent to GEO announce in addition to smaller changes that might have an effect on users, etc. You can subscribe to "NCBI-GEO-DEV" by completing a brief form sending an email to geo@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov with subject line "join ncib-geo-dev".

The tax-linkout mailing list is for announcements relevant to Entrez LinkOut to taxonomic resources on the web. List members include providers who maintain sets of linkout links from Entrez to their taxonomic databases, as well as other interested parties. Announcements include new features that make maintaining linkout link sets easier, more powerful, and more readily automated.
