Public school profiles provide comprehensive information about a school, including student performance on the state assessment (DC-CAS), which is administered to the 3rd-10th grades.

Enrollment for Kindergarten-5th grade is easily completed after settlement into base housing. Preschool in DC is funded, but not mandatory.  Preschool seats may fill quickly over the summer months, but families may register their preschool age children (3 and 4 year old) in other public or public charter schools in the District when the local school is full.

Families should also consider JBAB’s Child Development Center Enrichment Program, if children are too young to ride a school bus.

Out of Boundary Lottery Parents interested in public school enrollment options other than the neighborhood school, should participate in the DCPS Out of Boundary Lottery, which takes place annually for a 30-day period (January to February) each year.

DCPS Selective Citywide High Schools are public schools with specialized programs that require advance application, transcripts, and coordination with the school admission office.
