The Major General Emmett J. Bean Federal Center, commonly referred to as Building One, is located in the northeast Indianapolis area - Lawrence, Indiana - just a short distance outside the I-465 ring. This extraordinary structure is comprised of 1.6 million square feet of federal tenant space on 52 acres of picturesque terrain, accentuated by a newly renovated landscape.

Originally known as the Fort Harrison Finance Center and part of the Fort Benjamin Harrison Military Base, the facility was acquired by GSA in 1995. The Bean Federal Center completed an extensive project in 2003 to modernize the building's office space to current industry standards.

On the most recent GSA/Gallup Tenant Satisfaction Survey (2011), 81% of tenants gave a "more than satisfied" rating (four or five on a five-point scale) for the Bean Federal Center's facilities and GSA services.

Building Hours: The Bean Federal Center is open to the public 7 a.m.– 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (except federal holidays).

Recovery Act Project Update The Bean Federal Center recently completed a Recovery Act Project to install a photovoltaic roof system. This system uses strategically-placed solar panels to convert natural sunlight into safe, usable energy.

Facility Amenities The first floor cafeteria serves breakfast from 5:45-10 a.m. and lunch from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Beanery Coffee Shop serves Starbucks coffee, frosted beverages, ice cream, pastries, and fresh fruit from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  A snack stand on the first floor offers refreshments, greeting cards, and other convenience items from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and vending machines, microwaves, and seating are located in open break areas of the first three floors. 

The first floor Federal Occupational Health Unit is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Also available are a GSA joint-use conference room, the Finance Center Federal Credit Union in the north lobby, a barbershop on the first floor, and a fitness center managed by the Defense Finance and Accounting Services for use by building tenants (see posted hours of operation for each of the above).  

The Start Smart 4 Children Day Care Center, located northwest of the Bean Federal Center at 5545 Herbert Lord Drive, cares for federal employee children ages three months to six years from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Transportation Public transportation is available through IndyGo (see www.indygo.net for schedules and stops). Free parking is available on site.
