Andersonville National Historic Site
Plan A Field Trip

To Schedule a Field Trip

Teachers wishing to bring their class to Andersonville National Historic Site need to call 229-924-0343 to schedule a group tour.  Tours should be scheduled at least two weeks in advance, but tours are booked first come first serve.

Guidelines for a Pleasant Visit

1. It is imperative that each group arrives at the scheduled time. Plan time for your group to use the restroom facilities, to be divided into smaller groups, etc. before the scheduled time for your program. Please notify the park if you are going to be arriving late for your visit at (229) 924-0343. Being more than 15 minutes late will require your group to forfeit their Ranger led program.

2. Have your bus driver park in a bus-sized parking space in the lower section of the Museum parking lot. All passengers will be discharged and loaded from a parking space. DO NOT STOP IN FRONT OF THE MUSEUM TO DISCHARGE YOUR PASSENGERS.

3. We require 1 adult for every 15 students under the 10th grade. It is the responsibility of the adults with your group to ensure discipline. Our staff size is limited. Teachers are responsible for the conduct of the group.

4. Facilities are limited. Public restrooms, water to drink, and an Eastern National sales center are located only at the Visitor Center.

5. We are a unit of the National Park Service, and regulations will be strictly enforced in order to “preserve and protect” the park for future generations. All plants, animals, and historic features are protected by law. Food and drink are not allowed in buildings.

We expect your group to respect the historic landscape, the Museum exhibits, and the Commemorative Courtyard.

6. Visitors should keep their voices low and walk at all times. Absolutely no food or drinks are allowed inside the Museum or the Commemorative Courtyard. Please be respectful and do not use your cell phone in the museum.

7. Please do not climb the slopes of the historic earthworks or splash or wade in either the Commemorative Courtyard water feature or Providence Spring.

8. Remember that the park includes an active National Cemetery. All visitors are expected to show proper respect by keeping their voices low, by not sitting, standing, or jumping over the headstones or monuments, and by walking at all times.

9. A small picnic area is available for use by park visitors. Please assist us by properly disposing of all trash. The picnic area is first come, first serve; we do not accept reservations for this area.

10. Andersonville National Historic Site is NOT a recreation area. Remember that horseplay and excessive noise will not be tolerated, and YOU MAY BE ASKED TO LEAVE. This includes the National Prisoner of War Museum, National Cemetery and Prison Site.

11. Due to the small size of our book store, please do not allow more than 10 students at a time to enter. Students MUST have a teacher/chaperone while purchases are made.
