PEACHTREE CITY, GA — July 23, 2009 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDSCuba) announced today that Dr. Renee’ Butler has been named principal of Jackson Elementary School, at Fort Campbell, in the Kentucky District. Longtime Jackson Principal Susan Ahart will retire July 31.

Butler most recently served as an Instructional Systems Specialist (ISS) for the DDESS Area Service Center. She began working for DoDEA in 1978 as a teacher. During her more than 30 years with the Fort Campbell schools, she has served as a middle school principal and filled in as an acting elementary principal on numerous occasions.

“I am excited to welcome Dr. Renee’ Butler as the Jackson Elementary School principal,” said Dr. Jo Blease, Kentucky district’s Fort Campbell Assistant Superintendent. “She is a highly respected educator across DoDEA. She will use her expertise and wealth of experience in education to continue to strengthen the tradition of educational excellence for the children of Jackson Elementary School.”

Butler received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education from George Peabody College, Nashville, and her Master’s of Education Degree in Educational Leadership from Austin Peay State University, in Clarksville, Tenn. She earned her Doctorate of Education Degree in Curriculum and Supervision from Vanderbilt University, Nashville. She and her husband, Steve, reside in Pleasant View, Tenn., with their daughters,
Elizabeth and Ellen.
