EIA publishes historical state-level production data and estimates of proved reserves for shale gas and coal bed methane in the annual report U.S. Crude Oil, Natural Gas, and Natural Gas Liquids Proved Reserves.
There are also estimates of historical production and projections for U.S. shale gas and coal bed methane in the Annual Energy Outlook, see Figure 107 in Market trends and Table 14.
EIA also published two analyses World Shale Gas Resources: An Initial Assessment of 14 Regions Outside the United States, and Review of Emerging Resources: U.S. Shale Gas and Shale Oil Plays in April 2011 and July 2011, respectively.
