Diabetes and Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders

Asian Americans, in general, have the same rate of diabetes as non-Hispanic whites. However, there are differences within the Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander population.
  • Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders are more than three times more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes.
  • In 2010, Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders were 30 percent more likely to have had a foot examination within the past 12 months, as compared to non-Hispanic Whites.
