ANNOTATION: “The Core Competency Report is intended to serve as a companion and complement to existing professional competencies and program standards in mental health and substance abuse services … [and] was created as a tool to help develop the workforce serving women and girls; its intent is to offer the filed a framework that can be tailored and adapted to meet multiple needs” (p. 3). Sections of this document include: introduction; need for core competencies when working with women and girls; the competency framework; guidance statements; knowledge and skill competencies—sex and gender differences, relational approaches, understanding trauma, family-centered needs, special considerations during pregnancy, women’s health and health care, and collaboration and interdisciplinary effectiveness; attitude and attribute competencies—respect and empathy, recovery orientation, service-specific, and self-awareness and professional development; application of the core competencies; and conclusion.
