“One person of integrity can make a difference.”—Elie Wiesel
As the leader of Burma’s democracy movement, Aung San Suu Kyi has tirelessly advanced the cause of freedom and justice in her country despite great personal risk and sacrifice. In doing so, she has become an international symbol in the ongoing fight against tyranny.
In conferring on her its highest honor, the Museum recognizes the impact of one person who refuses to be indifferent. Named for its founding chairman, the award is given annually to an internationally prominent individual whose actions have advanced the Museum’s vision of a world where people confront hatred, prevent genocide, and promote human dignity.
This year we also pay tribute to the late Albert “Sonny” Abramson, whose singular leadership was a driving force behind the building of the Museum.
