Subject:   Relocation of National Data Buoy Center buoy

           41002 on or about November 1, 2011

On or about November 1, 2011, the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) will relocate buoy 41002 to approximately 32.0 N and
75.0 W. The new location will be 30 nautical miles southeast of its current position at 32.3 N and 75.5 W. The buoy frequently goes adrift due to its proximity to the Gulf Stream making its data unavailable. The buoy last went adrift on May 2, 2010, and was recovered on May 12, 2010, but has not been able to report data in that time. The proposed new location is further from the Gulf Stream and thus will alleviate the problem of the buoy going adrift and return it to normal data reporting.
