Economy
The American economy has come a long way from 2008 when we were losing 800,000 jobs a month. In the last 32 consecutive months, the private sector has added more than four million jobs, and more jobs were created in 2011 than in any year since 2005. While we are seeing signs of growth, too many Americans are still out of work and too many families are struggling.
We have a lot of work to do to strengthen our economy. To succeed, we must restore consumer and investor confidence and ensure American businesses can compete in a global economy. Economic competitiveness can be achieved through a skilled workforce; balanced tax policy; and investments in innovation, education and infrastructure.
To strengthen America’s economy, we must:
- Promote emerging industries to ensure American companies can remain on the frontlines of innovation;
- Ensure every American has access to affordable educational opportunities to build a successful workforce now and into the future; and
- Invest in transportation and infrastructure that will rebuild our local economies and reinvigorate our communities.
